Revenue Department Announces New Criteria : Corporate Income Tax Exemption for Large Commercial EV Investments

In accordance with Royal Decree No. 798 (issued on 9 September 2025) and
Revenue Department Director-General Notification No. 464 (issued on 20 January 2026),
the Revenue Department has introduced Corporate Income Tax (CIT) incentives for companies investing in Large Commercial Electric Vehicles (Large EVs), such as electric trucks and electric buses.

This measure aims to promote zero-emission commercial vehicles and support the sustainable development of Thailand’s automotive industry.

1. Tax Incentives (CIT Deduction)

Eligible companies may deduct expenses incurred from the purchase of commercial EVs (excluding repair costs) at a rate higher than normal. The deductible amount depends on the source of the vehicle:

  • Vehicles manufactured or assembled in Thailand
Deductible at 200% of the actual purchase cost
     (Additional tax exemption: 100%)
  • Completely built-up (CBU) vehicles imported from overseas
Deductible at 150% of the actual purchase cost
     (Additional tax exemption: 50%)

2. Eligible Period

To qualify for the tax incentive, companies must comply with the following timelines:

  • Investment Period
Actual expenses must be incurred under a contract, purchase order, or service agreement
     between 27 March 2025 and 31 December 2025
  • Registration Deadline
The investment project and plan must be registered via the Revenue Department’s website
     (www.rd.go.th) by 31 May 2026

3. Conditions for Tax Incentives

To ensure proper application of the tax benefits, the following conditions must be met:

  • Method of Deduction
The deduction cannot be claimed in full in a single year.
It must be evenly deducted over five consecutive accounting periods,
starting from the first accounting period in which depreciation begins
(i.e., when the vehicle is ready for use)
  • Vehicle Qualifications
The vehicle must be brand new, unused, and legally registered with the Department of Land Transport
  • Reporting and Documentation
A detailed investment report must be prepared in the format prescribed by the Revenue Department.
Supporting documents (e.g., tax invoices and proof of payment) must be retained at the business premises for inspection
  • Fixed Asset Registration
The EV must be recorded in the company’s fixed asset register
  • Non-duplication of Benefits
The tax incentive cannot be combined with tax privileges granted by the BOI or EEC

4. Disposal or Loss of Asset

If the vehicle is sold, destroyed, or lost during the five-year incentive period, the following tax implications apply:

  • Immediate Termination of Tax Incentives
The company will no longer be entitled to tax exemptions for the remaining periods
  • No Tax Reversal for Previous Years
Tax benefits already claimed in prior years do not need to be recalculated or repaid
(those benefits are deemed final and valid)
